Dental anxiety in children can begin a fear of dental offices for the rest of their lives. As patients, you trust us by sitting in our dental office chair, which is a vulnerable position and can make some children uneasy. How can you ease those fears, though, and encourage them to want to come to their appointments?

Dentists are Fun!

To ensure your children don’t acquire a fear of coming to the dentist, you need to start bringing them early and showing up with them when they don’t have an appointment! You should always call us in advance to ensure we won’t be packed with appointments, but stopping in for a few moments to say hello and learn about the dental office will help ease your child’s fears.

Explaining The Procedure

Either you can explain the procedure, or we can, but either way, your child should know what’s going to happen to them before they arrive. It can be frightening sitting in the dental chair and not knowing what’s going to happen next, mainly if they’re not used to dental professionals sitting near them and working on their teeth. Knowing what’s going to happen is going to help them relax and make the experience far easier for them.

Explaining the tools

Dental tools can look like something from a nightmare if you don’t know what they do. These tools scare many young children, so familiarizing them with the tools we use regularly is a great way to ease dental anxiety.
